"The idea for the MDC logo came quickly, which is not always the case! It was actually the first concept I worked on, and after a number of other options, the one we kept coming back to in the process. I was trying to capture the concept of the interplay between the digital world & the world outside of it—and how ideas can take flight digitally."

–Nicole Mangenelli

Nicole Manganelli, a graphic designer and printmaker from Portland, Maine, designed the logo for Maine Digital Collaborative.

When we thought of reaching out to a Maine artist for the project, we asked around and checked the work of several designers. One designer we spoke to strongly recommended Nicole because of her experience in printmaking and graphic design, so we contacted her. Following initial email exchanges, we decided to meet for a kaffeeklatsch. And so we did at Speckled Ax, a coffee bar in downtown Portland.

For over two hours, we talked. And as we did, Nicole took out her notepad and began to draw. She asked us to keep responding to her queries as she sketched. A while later, she showed her first rendition of a concept. Suffice it to say that after a few weeks of drafting logo designs, we settled on the very first one that Nicole drew, right there in the hurly-burly of a cozy coffee shop.

MDC is delighted to work with Nicole!
